Dear forum community,

Our floor plan design is basically finished; only the arrangement of the sanitary fixtures in the bathroom is still giving us headaches. The dimensions of the room are basically final; we would rather not change them – theoretically, that would still be possible, but since it would throw the entire rest of the floor plan concept out of the window, we would actually like to avoid that. The window dimensions are the same: they should if possible no longer be changed, and the placement should also remain the same if possible. The right, larger window could easily be shifted a little to the left or right, but the smaller window “must” remain as it is (at most, if absolutely necessary, it could be removed altogether). This is due to the exterior view.

Unfortunately, I do not have a current plan from our graduate engineer (there were still a few changes to the windows that have to be incorporated), so I have recreated the bathroom myself. This is the current state of the planning:

If any further measurements are needed, please let me know.

Basically, we don’t find the arrangement so bad, but it still doesn’t make us completely happy. The bathroom is this big (13.51 m²), but there is still not enough space for a small bathroom cabinet for, e.g., towels. I placed a small cabinet next to the washbasin in the draft, but that will probably be too tight (because light switches and so on also have to go somewhere). Do you perhaps have any improvement suggestions or other ideas?

The first draft from our planner showed the following sanitary arrangement:

We were not so happy with this. We are fans of T- and L-solutions, but we think it has to fit the room as well. In our case, it didn’t fit. Above all, the toilet right next to the door was a no-go for us.

What is definitely desired is a large shower (does not have to be open, so also gladly with a glass partition or similar, with at least 1.20 x 1.20 m or “elongated” with at least 1.00 x 1.40 m), as well as a double washbasin (preferably 160 cm wide). Toilet preferably slightly hidden, but that is not a must. The shape of the bathtub does not matter (so it doesn’t have to be a hexagonal tub).

Thank you in advance.

Regards, Lanini

Does the door then go down the stairs or is there a parapet? Possibly move the door away from the corner, and then... ...in the above design remove the small window and swap the bathtub with the washbasin. Washbasin on the short side or to the left of the window.

Thank you for your reply.

Next to the door by the stairs is a railing. The stairs go down on the other side.

We had also considered your suggestion before, although we weren't completely satisfied with it either. We have thought a lot about it ourselves and like it best the way it is shown in the above illustration, although unfortunately this arrangement does not satisfy us completely (no space for a narrow bathroom cabinet for towels, etc.). Really difficult. That's why I started this thread here, because maybe someone has a brilliant idea that we haven't thought of yet?

If the cupboard does not have to be tall, one can place a cupboard next to the tub and under the window. Or is it floor-to-ceiling?

I would probably also move the door to the right according to the plan, then there is enough space behind the door for a cupboard. And then you can take up the request from .. if the window is not floor-to-ceiling, you can create some space at the bottom right of the bathtub with cupboards at the height of the bathtub’s upper edge. Then you can also put a nice plant in front of the window.

Thanks to both of you as well! The window is not floor-to-ceiling but has a parapet of 94.5 cm from the top edge of the finished floor. Placing a cabinet there at the height of the bathtub edge is of course a good idea, thank you! I think we will probably do it that way. We are still considering whether to move the door; that would at least be another option. As the door is currently placed, there is a nice symmetry in the upstairs hallway because all the doors are arranged parallel to each other. That is somewhat "important" to my husband, and he only wants to give up this symmetry if it really brings a big advantage. Men, you know. You think the arrangement of the bathroom fixtures is okay so far, or would something about it bother you significantly?
