How to prepare for a power outage in winter?

France already had to massively buy electricity for heating last winter. Now even more power plants are offline and electricity imports are increasing. That is why we are still burning so much gas, among other things. The power grid has to remain stable. The nuclear power plants are only partly taken offline due to heat and lack of water; many are taken offline due to defects such as cracks. They don’t know which of these can be restarted in winter. So it will also be cold there in winter, whether with or without gas from Russia.

A power outage for a few hours is annoying – it works. If it lasts for days and not just in a small area, public order becomes the problem. I’m glad to be in the countryside. Somehow, together, people manage to get fed and warm.

In my opinion, it is very questionable how 2-3 million electric cars are not a problem in the next few years, but 2-3 million fan heaters supposedly are...
Because electric cars are not all charged via home photovoltaic systems, especially not in winter.

Phew, I remember a power outage lasting several days, locally even weeks! here in Münsterland. Snow had frozen to ice on the overhead lines, then poles broke because of that (due to false "thriftiness" they were not maintained / built stable enough). Generators became scarce, farms were ice islands, etc. Not really nice, even here in the countryside not ... :oops:

It's quite simple: with an e-car and an average daily mileage of 30 km, you need about 5 kWh of electricity. Per day. With a 2 kW fan heater running 24 hours, on the other hand, it's about 50. So a factor of 10. And the wall boxes with 22 kW and those in public areas can be remotely controlled by the grid operator, i.e. switched off. Same with heat pumps. All that is not possible with fan heaters and Schuko sockets...
