I believe heat pumps have gotten a bad reputation because many are misapplied (especially the early days of the air-water heat pump) and configured incorrectly (this still often happens today).

Yes, I think so too. Because many heating installers often had no clue and just installed the unit, then left it to themselves and its user.

My compressor has a 10-year warranty (as does the one from the refrigerator), but it usually doesn’t break down; rather, it’s the control electronics – just like with the gas heating system ;). However, the latter has a few more wear parts...

I have read about design lifetimes between 20-30 years. That would be enough for me, since ultimately it is only the device that gets replaced, and it didn’t cost 6,000 euros.

By the way, I like to switch electricity providers annually – why wouldn’t you do that? It’s that simple...

I didn’t want to be dependent on two utilities, because I need electricity anyway. With the heat pump and possibly with storage in the future, you can become more independent than with gas – and you can see from the example of Ukraine how dependent a country can be on gas and its supplier.

Then it probably only works with self-sufficiency.

Either your own oil or gas field, your own sustainable forest, or the photovoltaics on the roof.

So, there are ways.

And the rest remains the crystal ball.

I see it similarly to the OP.

See:

Not the last post, but a bit further up.

A lot of crystal ball. But all prices only know one direction. Upwards. Especially for electricity.

Gas condensing boiler 10-12 years
(--> New one, as old one is then = junk). At the latest after 15 years a gas condensing boiler is due. Advantage: Doesn't cost much, a new one.

Air-to-water heat pump approx. 15 years
(I think mostly repairable, personally I consider operating times of 20-30 years quite possible)
