Thank you Winniefred for your numbers. That rather aligns with what the Wall Street Journal described. Honestly, I would prefer to spare the extra burden on my husband and me rather than on the children.

On the topic of consulting: We are both in in-house consulting, I was in traditional consulting for just under 2 years and personally found it quite unpleasant with the constant nights in hotels during the week.

Conclusion: Our income as a couple is more than enough for the monthly installment. I need to carefully calculate the matter with the children in a quiet moment and also take a close look at how much we could realistically earn or how we would arrange it with parental leave/home office/part-time work.

Then let's switch to another topic. How should the construction be done, with a developer or a general contractor? How expensive are the plots of land with you? How large should the house be?

I have to agree with Hilfe here WebEx and children do not work at all. Closing and locking the door is not enough! I have personal experience with this. Unless you want to apologize repeatedly. But that is the future.

This works with external childcare, i.e., when the kids are not in the house. Otherwise, it is actually unrealistic. You don't get anything done and the kids of course do not accept the "office boundary." I have personal memories from childhood of closed office doors and cannot recommend this to anyone.

That's just this typical way of thinking... when you are (still) childless, you come up with the most amazing ideas..........
