I am quite optimistic because pellets can also be excellently made from wood that, for example, is infested by bark beetles and can no longer be used otherwise. The current price development in the wood market has so far hardly or not at all affected pellet prices. Will that still happen? No idea. A big advantage, I think, is the absence of a CO2 tax on the fuel.

[A QUOTE="taschenonkel, post: 494519, member: 41350"] A big advantage, I think, is the absence of a CO2 tax on the fuel. [/QUOTE] It is kept within limits. In return, the price is guaranteed to be adjusted (and in addition, demand rises).

Well, let's see. Cheaper than our premium heating oil that we have used so far, definitely for everyone :-)

I don’t know if you’ve noticed what’s going on right now... (Now follows a purely subjective observation! I have no statistics!)

Currently, four people in my circle of acquaintances are installing a pellet boiler. My plumbing specialist is only accepting orders again from mid-2022 because he is installing so many pellet boilers. My solar technician, who previously was mainly active in solar thermal and fireplaces with water jackets, is now also installing pellets—and therefore cannot install any photovoltaic systems before February. I therefore expect the demand in Germany to double within the next two or three years. Maybe the bark beetle will help a little. But in 10 years the wood will be gone too (and none will have regrown yet). At the latest then, the pellet price will have doubled (plus inflation, which is picking up again), and right on time the chimney sweep will come and tell you what you have to do within a year to reduce your fine dust emissions...

I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. But at least I would currently have serious concerns if I had to have pellets installed.

Can you actually burn something else in there? Like pallets or something? I mean the technical possibility, not the legal one...

If you have the pallets and can press them into pellets yourself - sure.

If only there were heating systems that could be supplied with self-produced fuel... ;-)
