I believe there are no regulations here. Before the last ambulance, I almost threw myself out of the way. It was speeding down the hill. They even overlooked the HVO car.
It makes sense that a clearly visible house number is helpful.
Ours is made of black metal.
HVO comes directly from the town, they don't need the number.
There is NOTHING that isn't regulated here – this one is in the Building Code §126 with the note that state laws can specialize this, often even punishable by fines.
Of course, such a small ancillary provision is not on every municipality’s radar, but as soon as you investigate, you will eventually find it, just like the potato bagging law and the vineyard snail regulation.
Of course, you will almost never need it, but maybe it does help once, and if it is that the neighboring building can be found faster because of my house number or a delivery service (/care service etc.) is happy to find better orientation in the street.
It’s only about the (possible) purpose of faster orientation, and therefore I would do it with or without a law, based on my own experiences, with or without frills, totally doesn’t matter.
Also, it can be helpful for the homeowners themselves if they come home drunk at night and all the houses in the residential area look almost the same.
