In my opinion, you simply have to distinguish between two things. If the shutters automatically go up at 8 and down at 6 pm, then that is of course also an automation, no matter which system does it. But it is quite dumb and therefore not a "smart home".
If a system controls the shutters depending on the season, the position of the sun, the room temperature, and the wind (storm for blinds), then it is already more intelligent.
Both are automatic, but the quality is different and the demands on the system are more complex.
