And exactly for that reason, these things also have a switch Off - Automatic - On ;)

Or a double big plus point if you - let's say - want to go to the basement with two crates of drinks (water on the left, pilsner on the right). Or go from the basement to the upper floor with a full laundry basket in both hands. A thousand and more situations are conceivable where your hands are full and you actually still need to operate a light switch ... ;)

This is not about the basement, and that’s not what I mean when talking about self-determination over the light. In the basement, you hardly have any natural light, so those things are very comfortable. But here it’s about the entrance area and its pleasant natural lighting, which is why I don’t consider your suggestion exactly debatable. There may be others who like that the light always turns on there at perceived twilight (in a hallway sometimes a 24/7 situation), but for many it is not pleasant.
At work, we have these motion detectors in the central hallways, and they do a good job there… but I don't want that switching on/off hassle. I also perceive it negatively from my office? When it turns on... and when I go to the copier, I first go into a dark corner. It’s nicer when you then have a wall light or floor lamp. But it’s always artificial light. The connoisseur knows the difference ;)

But I had explicitly spoken out for natural light in the hallway and even posted a picture of our front door. Did you not look at my picture? The tip about the motion detector from me was only because the original poster probably cannot get enough light into the hallway through a light opening in or next to the front door.

Okay, the basement was perhaps a somewhat unfortunate example. But we have these devices in the basement, the hallway on the ground floor, and the hallway on the upper floor. So I can go from top to bottom (and of course vice versa) even during the darker hours of the day without having to operate a light switch. Both hands are free for whatever.

Well, in our case, the motion detectors do not switch on 250-watt halogen cold light spotlights, but tracks whose individual lighting fixtures are more or less exactly aimed at the pictures in the hallway and the stairwell and thus put the art "in the right light" ... ;)

Unfortunately, without Wi-Fi, the picture doesn't load even after 10 minutes

Well, then I'll significantly turn down the quality ... :)
