I just measured, our door is 1.20 meters wide and has a light opening with 25 cm width plus next to it a light strip also with 25 cm. Our hallway is wonderfully bright because of this. The neighbors only have the opening in the door and personally, I find that too dark.

I have a normally wide door that is covered with frosted glass film. It is a bit dark here, but really not disturbing. My trick is to distract from it with interesting lamps and tiles. Everyone who comes into my place is happy because of the beautiful tiles on the floor. In the hallway, you can really dare to be bold with the furnishings. So you can still really "make up" a lot if you take a completely normal door without any frills. The hysteria that you must have light-light-light everywhere really goes too far nowadays. Just take whatever you find visually best. I would take a completely normal, nice door that I like without light strips.

Door width: The door leaf or the clear frame measurement, meaning with the frame?

But they usually do not have an upper floor that is accessible via a staircase in the hallway.
I go up and down about 20 times a day (even more often with a small child)....
But since in this case the staircase is directly adjacent to the common room, you don't have to use the entire hallway to go upstairs.

But it doesn’t matter whether I walk through or use a hallway with lamps in an apartment or a hallway and staircase with lamps in a single-family house... whereas in our case, for example, half of the staircase already gets natural light from the upper floor hallway with a window.

The paths in a single-family house hallway are usually longer and it is also frequented more often due to access to the [OG] and basement. In my apartment, I also have a dark hallway and I have to say that it annoys me a bit when I have to turn on the light every time...
