Really? For us, there were very few who were not allowed to celebrate at home or participate in the cooking evening mentioned here.

How it will be is up to the OP and is written in the stars.

.. that's pretty radical ... I think it's great when pubescent teenagers are also interested in preparing food and want to cook together with their friends sometimes, instead of going somewhere and eating fast food.

Sad for you and your children. And a foundation for unnecessary disputes. The children also live there and should have the same rights (age-appropriate) as the parents, at least regarding friends and activities.
Moreover, with good planning, it is possible to ensure that EVERYONE is satisfied.

Especially since the kids then go elsewhere and during the important teenage years you no longer have an eye on who they are with.

Crazy statement. I really have to say that. It was open at our place too. Because of that, I had to coordinate the appointments with my parents, they were often out then. But not just cooking, also for game nights, for example, you don't sit in your own room but use the kitchen table. In the end it went like this: "Hey, we're out next Saturday evening, just so you know."

At my parents' it was open, at ours now too, but without kids. I always find it embarrassing when people use their own childhood as an argument (we didn't have that back then either), but now want to fulfill wishes themselves that their parents didn't have back then either. That is an outdated authoritarian tool.
