In principle, it doesn't matter whether the water is in the pipe in the wall or in the hose in front of the wall.
In the standard case, there is probably a connection first, although I would make sure with a separate angle valve that this does not prevent the SbS from standing close to the wall. For example, we took an extra flat valve to avoid any collision.
