In principle, it doesn't matter whether the water is in the pipe in the wall or in the hose in front of the wall.

In the standard case, there is probably a connection first, although I would make sure with a separate angle valve that this does not prevent the SbS from standing close to the wall. For example, we took an extra flat valve to avoid any collision.

My line is 3 m long, so far no problems at all. It is connected to the sink/dishwasher. I wouldn’t want to miss the water connection anymore. It would be perfect if the SbS also had a carbon dioxide connection …

The question is whether a water dispenser is necessary. One should consider whether to have such an SBS with water/ice cubes because a) it is offered or others have it, or because b) one also uses and needs it oneself. A seems more likely to me than B. In this respect, question the question

We have a freezer with a fresh water connection in the pantry and we are happy about it. You should consider that a Side by Side is deeper than a normal refrigerator.

I have always been the ice cube type! So a luxury that I enjoy and do not want to miss anymore.

We also have a French door (I find them much more practical than the SbS) with a fixed water connection. After 1 1/2 years of use, I have to say, everything was done right. Only at the beginning of December did I turn off the ice cube function; until then, it was used frequently. Especially the children regularly help themselves there, and in summer, it is a really nice thing, e.g. iced tea with crushed ice.

We also thought for a long time about whether to use a connection or a tank. But honestly, the connection hose is so thin that there is only minimal standing water, whereas the 3-liter tank might sit stagnant for a whole week and then has to be cleaned meticulously... Since the refrigerator is opposite the kitchen unit in our place, a separate connection with a short branch line (approx. 1m) was installed, no problem at all.
