Do you actually know that things like education and care have not been in the spheres of paid work forever, but have always been worked away? Were those people (mostly women) perhaps more "work-shy" when they were not yet paid?
What is this dull accusation of misogyny supposed to mean? I talked to the OP and not about his wife. It is he who does not want to "work himself to death" (free quote, search too time-consuming) and dreams of a sabbatical and would rather reduce the size of the children's room instead of the office. A sabbatical hardly serves the quality of child-rearing either; 90% over 10 years would relieve his wife significantly more and additionally mean more lasting usable time with the children.
