Price increases and shortages existed even before the war. It has not been around that long. You can't come with cheap buildings from before 2021. Although the attitude of can help many builders save. Simply focus on your own needs, hide magazines, add a touch of pragmatism.

Your comparison is nice, but it does not get to the heart of this debate. My grandfather built in 1955, with a lot, a lot of his own effort... and still had to pay more than ten times his annual net income for the house... even though most of the work was done by friends without payment. Back then, almost everyone knew a bricklayer, carpenter, electrician, etc.

When I read here that a large part even hires a professional company for the simplest tasks, like hanging wallpaper and putting paint on the wall... an acquaintance paid 15,000 EUR for Q3 (which was not necessary at all, Q2 was already great) and wallpaper...

No one should then be surprised... my grandfather helped with the masonry... and with the roof truss... and with the ceilings... in every trade.
Imagine the IT specialist throwing a tile to the roofer... unthinkable. That’s why building is expensive... because no one wants to "build" anymore... they want to "move in" ;)

Almost everywhere here, it says Ott Haus. Although that probably has to do with a real estate agent who must be related to the mayor and presumably also to Ott. Otherwise, until now construction is being done with a contractor from the village and one from the neighboring village; with my general contractor I am already quite far away even though he comes from the Danube valley and that is also nearby.
Also, in other areas we have looked at, there are a larger number of signs from Hanse Haus or Weberhaus, as well as Redling (local general contractor).

I also belong to the faction that lets painters and floor layers do it even though I could basically do it myself. In the end, the problem is that nowadays a lot is built far away from the place of residence. Quickly doing something after work is just not possible when you drive a good three quarters of an hour each way. That’s not family-friendly either. And since these two trades are not among the best paid in construction, I have them do it. In return, I tackle the outdoor facilities myself, since I do live on site.

Ok, understandable. Although I couldn't sleep without daily checking on things at the "construction site." Site managers and inspectors are, in my experience, there at most weekly. I check every single evening...

I also sincerely look forward to the fact that you apparently earn very well. I get 3x EUR gross per hour and have calculated that a painter is not worth it for me. If I put in the effort, I can do it almost as well... and the 4 weeks that it costs me more... if at all (shortage of skilled workers)... do not outweigh the savings.

I guess it depends on the area. My parents built around the turn of the millennium, and at that time I was at least the only one in my close circle of friends living in a newly built house. I still remember it well because it was quite awkward for me back then, as I didn’t want my friends to think of me as a “rich kid.”

My father earned above average, and my mother worked part-time. And although my parents did a lot themselves (my father originally comes from the trade), they still had to tighten their belts a bit. So, for example, camping holidays were the thing.

When I complain to my father today about how expensive everything is, he can’t take me seriously and points out that back then they didn’t have two new cars, iPhones, multiple streaming subscriptions, and so on. Yeah, he’s probably right to some extent. ;)

Exactly: turnkey ;)

Somehow I also have the feeling that nobody trusts themselves anymore, can actually do anything, or even thinks that the neighbor thinks you can't afford a skilled worker anymore :(
Even for "planting a tree," the garden landscaper is called in.
At some point, the child won't be conceived by oneself anymore either ;)
