Experiences with Starlink from SpaceX or GigaCube?

Hello everyone!

The first hurdle has been placed in our way: In our temporary accommodation where we want to live during the construction phase, there is no DSL connection for us.
In the region, a provider has expanded (Inexio, formerly Quix), where I was able to order broadband - but I have now received an order confirmation stating that the technology at our connection address is not yet expanded and they cannot give us a connection date.
I love that - selling connections and then having no capacities. Dialogue with support revealed - at the address where we are connected, the KVZ is full, they would have to expand there first, whether and when that will happen is unclear.
Via Telekom we get 2Mbit down, which is not enough to work.

Now we have 2 options: Gigacube from Vodafone or similar (are there any other providers?), or Starlink.
Edit: Fortunately, there is LTE at the address.
Starlink naturally has high initial costs. And their website provides very little information, considering you have to agree with 2 clicks that they can charge the 700€.
Does anyone of you have Starlink (or Gigacube) and can share their experience?

Best regards,
Kati

My advice: take a cheap prepaid card from all providers and test which one has the best reception. Especially indoors, especially in the planned office. And then simply choose the product from that provider. Vodafone has the Gigacube, o2 something similar [Name ist mir entfallen], Telekom a hybrid solution (DSL line with LTE fallback - possibly interesting for [im HomeOffice], because 2Mbit is better than 0 when there are problems with the reception station).

Only know very recent user reports from the internet about Starlink (just interested). Pro: - high downstream (150-300 Mbits/s) and upstream (50-100 Mbits/s) - latency okay at 20-40 milliseconds - flat rate - easy setup Contra: - high initial costs - connection drops possible for hours - high ongoing costs (approx. €100 monthly) plus high electricity costs (router consumes over 100 watts!) My conclusion: Only interesting if you really live at the [AdW]. Otherwise – and if a set data volume is sufficient and LTE is available – use the Gigacube or Telekom Hybrid.

FritzBox LTE and a cheap data card inserted. Alternative Gigacube. Starlink only makes sense if nothing else is available. Then also permanently installed on the roof or something like that.

Oh thanks, that's an idea. I didn't know about Fritzbox LTE at all. :O.

We have a small box from Netgear that provides me with internet via mobile network when I work from Switzerland. The purchase was back then (2020) I believe around 200 CHF. The latencies are manageable as long as you are not using the GUI on remote systems. Everything with CLI runs smoothly. (stellt euch hier einen Pinguin Smiley vor)
