2m x 1m works with 6 people if one person sits at the head of the table. In the short term, 3 people can also sit side by side on the long side, but it is not comfortable seating. Therefore, we are planning a new table of about 3m x 1m in the house.

With us, 2.20 cm is very comfortable for 8 people. But it also depends on the design of the furniture.

Oh dear, when I read this I realize that I have had a miserable life so far without all of this- We are two and often have visitors, and 2x1 is really comfortable. Permanently having six people also works well. For visitors, we used to have an extendable/attachable option with the family that was actually never ever used (but paid for expensively). Nearly everyone today builds themselves a counter with seating options, large children's rooms with chairs+tables for "emergency use" etc., all of which can be wonderfully designed. Visitors come occasionally, but I would never restrict our daily habits for that, even though my visitors are important to me. I have garden chairs, garden table, chipboard with tablecloth etc., I once had a whopping 90! people in the house (120 sqm with huge terrace) but no one said anything about a too small table. Of course I can present situations where something is always missing, pan too small, terrace too short, chairs too few, car too small, sunshade too small. But if I really wanted to proactively compensate for these few cases, then my house or basement would be filled with stuff 95% of the year that I would only rarely need. Then I should also build with 250-300 sqm living space, as I can imagine equally realistic situations where one would need that for 5% of the time, plus XXL grill in outdoor kitchen for big parties etc. Maybe it is because we also decided to manage better with less (wisdom of age). I find a table 3m long or longer absolutely chic or a great huge sofa, I like sitting there alone but then the room and the whole house would have to fit this size, otherwise it seems strange to me. Therefore, I agree with the idea of of the extendable table, because it should not stand there like a monster in a cramped room.

Commented similarly in parallel.......it must be some kind of wisdom that comes with age after all

Does no one have an extendable one today?

In the normal state ours is 1.6 m and extended 2.6 m

We have a Connubia by Calligaris table Baron with ceramic worktop in anthracite
