Dining table 2m or 2.20m... we are unsure

So even with 220 you can't sit three people side by side. We have 200 and three chairs fit just barely next to each other. To be able to sit properly side by side, it has to be 240 or more.

As I understood TE, it's not about sitting, but about standing. Those are still two different things if you don't have the place full of people for coffee every day. They stand decorated opposite each other, and can be rearranged if needed, e.g. for a Skat round.

That's correct. That's how we have it currently. And unfortunately still will, because as I said, the table is too good to be replaced.
Nevertheless, if we needed a new one, it would be at least 2.40 meters. Preferably 2.80 - 3.00 meters.
Always assuming there is enough space.

For your request to place chairs 3 and 3 opposite each other, the table length is not the only decisive criterion. Chair width, string height, and - as you already mention - the position of the table legs are additional parameters. Of course, you can fit 3 chairs side by side with a 2m table. It is then "cozy" for sitting while eating.
