Hi,

You are probably right about that. But many general contractors apparently use the RC2 windows as a cash cow. The surcharges I've heard from various GCs went up to 400 € per window sash!

Best regards,

Andreas

First of all, the window manufacturer must be certified; the local carpenter often cannot deliver RC according to the standard. If necessary, a completely new supplier must be chosen. The additional material effort is limited, correct. However, the installation is more complex, which directly translates into man-hours.

Therefore, I consider a surcharge from the "ordinary window" (triple-glazed, U-value 0.7 W/m²K, plastic profile) to certified RC2 of about 140 euros per element to be very inexpensive. But, I do not know the basis. Perhaps the starting window was already very high quality and already came from the major brand manufacturer who has the necessary certificate in the drawer.

In any case, RC2 would have cost us significantly more than +140 euros per window.

What exactly does that look like, what do you have to be shown here, or is the corresponding "sticker" on the window frame enough? So far, we have only a verbal confirmation that our supplier is certified, and I don't really doubt that, but before signing the contract, I would still like to have a solid proof of that.

Go to: k-Einbruch.de/Fenster

Then click on "Neubau" and further on you will find under the point "fachgerechter Einbau" the complete manufacturer directory of the police

Rhenish regards

No. The window installer does not have to be certified; rather, the window must have a test certificate. This is also the reason why the K-Einbruch.de site mainly lists window manufacturers who serve resellers/dealers. They can purchase and trade RC2 windows. The RC2 tests cost a lot of money—often too much for the "normal" window installer on site. However, the large window manufacturers must be able to offer their dealer customers an RC2 window and have therefore conducted the tests.

Have them provide you with a test certificate for the type of window used in your home, and the window installer/dealer should confirm in writing (e.g., on the invoice) that your windows have RC2.

A small tip on the side: If you want ornamental glass/satinato with laminated safety glass (VSG), ask the window installer to show you VSG with a matte film. It looks very similar and is significantly cheaper.

Hello,

we want to have windows installed with an RC2 certificate. We are told that this is not a problem in the basement because the windows there are surrounded on all 4 sides by masonry. However, on the ground floor, there can be no certificate because the roller shutters above are a weak point.

If it is assumed that many new houses have roller shutters, how can you then get an RC2-certified window with a roller shutter?

Without the certificate, we would get RC2 locking + 6mm laminated safety glass + cold welded glazing beads.

Best regards LSBT17
