However, such sensor technology is outdated; nowadays, this can be done much smarter in software. Image recognition.

Personally, I find Arlo and the like mercilessly overpriced, and cloud services are out of the question for me.

That's exactly what I mean, that's why I installed the camera.

I wouldn't use something like that for genuine alarm systems, I had long discussions about it with our security service (industry).

If you have an aversion to the cloud, okay! But why overpriced? Arlo Pro with 4 cameras. €516 on sale yesterday.

Not necessarily. Last winter, two of my immediate neighbors were broken into. We are all good friends here, etc.

We were having dinner. One neighbor was sitting with his wife on the terrace having a cigarette. Another was sweeping in the driveway.

None of us four different people in different spots around the two houses heard or saw anything.

The incident was noticed because one of the victims came back from shopping. She was only away for about 30 minutes. During that time, two houses were broken into, including smashing glass panes and tearing off roller shutters.

Oh dear. After the 5th/10th/20th false alarm, you will curse the system and turn off these notifications.
