Perhaps some also consider that the little ones can play better on lawns than in the flower bed [emoji6] But generally, I do tend to agree with you, ypg, nice bushes, trees, flowers that conjure up great colors depending on the season and attract birds, butterflies, bees, and bumblebees, bringing life to the garden...

Apparently, I am once again very unfashionable with my gable roof and vegetable garden. However, I also don't see a big tree on our tiny plot, which I would also find confining. But why a gable roof, with a 2m knee wall in our case, offers less floor space than a two-story building, someone would have to explain that to me first. With a gable roof, a well-usable attic also fits on top.

No, in the push-up variant with a 2m knee wall, a gable roof is fashionable - it is no longer classic.

Garden landscaping also means additional time and work, which at least in the usual new development areas, people neither have time for nor want any more work.

That is, terrace, hedge, lawn. Everything else means effort.

Here are a few examples:

Osnabrück:

Landshut:

Regensburg:

Gotha:

Marktschwaben:

The owner with a green thumb will probably not see the time spent in the garden as a loss of time or even work, but as a hobby and thus joy, but I also think that it is often as you say. A lawn takes care of itself almost automatically - especially with an irrigation system and lawn mowing robot [emoji4]

With us, the trees and bushes are integrated directly into the development plan. Here, everyone must plant at least 3 fruit trees. However, we don't have any plots under 700m² here. I think you are seeing everything quite negatively. Such a fruit tree can often be found even in small plots. They are not that big. It would be terrible if there were only lawns and Thuja everywhere.
