That is a separate box like the fuse box. Otherwise, they would have simply installed our modem on the wall (also not a problem in the utility room), but instead, it is in the media distribution cabinet from which all the LAN connections originate. We have a LAN outlet in the hallway and in the living room. There we can connect our TV or an extra Wi-Fi extender.

Maybe also try to negotiate with the tradespeople. We also told the drywallers that we already have another offer. Lo and behold, we were given a better offer for filling and sanding.

In case someone wants to see what a “media distributor/-cabinet” is.

It is in our upper floor and only for the upper floor.
Orange - LAN cables (duplex) from the individual rooms to the patch panel
White (currently only two active) - LAN cables that give "Internet" from the switch (D-Link) to the respective socket
Televes - multiswitch, in case we want to use more than 4 TVs or activate all SAT sockets (currently only one TV in use)
White box on the left - power supply for an access point (WiFi “router” for the upper floor), since the switch installed here has no PoE.
Two red connectors in the switch - fiber optic cables that bring the Internet from the network cabinet on the ground floor to the switch on the upper floor. (Additionally two spare blind cables in reserve)

Material cost for this cabinet with contents about 300-400€

…where currently the mindset is “better to have than to need,” which can be seen, for example, because only two of the possible 16 LAN points on the upper floor are used.

I also have to say that the electrician only pulled the LAN cables and that terminating, patching, etc., can be done with normal hands and tools for max. 50€.

Our electrician also wanted double the price for the "double" network socket. So I had simple ones installed everywhere - plus roof overhangs at the corners of the house. There are no telephone & sat/antenna cables throughout the whole house. I preferred to invest in network cables myself (these were lump sums with the general contractor). The electrician mounted the sockets in the wall - I did the rest myself. I had to rework 50% of the sockets anyway (mounted incorrectly or loosely...).

The electrician would probably have charged me 2k euros for a 10-inch cabinet and patch panel... Of course they need to make a living too - but the prices some of them were charging here were really outrageous...

: What kind of satellite socket and coaxial cable is that in your first picture? You said you realized everything without satellite cable!? SAT over IP?

I'm curious about what is still technically possible.

This is cable connection - but only for internet access. The "cable" goes into the back of the Fritzbox in the server cabinet. Now there is also fiber optic. However, only a small contract as a backup. Recently, there was an offer to have fiber optic installed and get the connection to the house "free" - I’d rather pay 24x20 euros than 1500 euros later just to have fiber installed.
