That's what people say until they've had a two-way switch once.

Winter ... dark ... the alarm clock rings. To find the door, you first switch on the bedside lamp, then walk to the door and switch on the main light, then back to the bedside lamp to switch it off, and then to the door to finally leave. In the evening, the other way around.

Here in the newly renovated apartment, I have two-way switches at the bedroom door, with which I can basically switch the main light and the socket for the bedside lamp on and off. Likewise, at the bed, there is a switch each for the main light and the bedside light. Very convenient ... just saying. And yes, not necessary, but practical.

In the kitchen, it means considering the dishwasher, and preferably 2 ovens (more and more often there is a steam oven in addition). These are devices that require specially protected sockets. You can’t just quickly branch off from a normal countertop socket.

Alexa makes it possible

When my alarm goes off, that’s my phone in this case. And it lights my way out of the bedroom quite well – even much better than if I turn on the “big light” and wake my bed partner, for example. Especially since I’m often overwhelmed out of habit by too many light switches in hotel rooms, where I’m never sure in advance what exactly each switch activates and deactivates. But that’s a completely different topic. I see the advantage of a two-way switch, just not its necessity for me in the bedroom. And if I had to/should/must make compromises somewhere, that’s exactly where I would start.

Regarding the kitchen sockets: dishwasher socket is included. As for the oven… yes, all correct. It’s always the question whether you can, have to, and should cover everything, as I said. A separation of oven (at chest height instead of below) and stove tops would make me think more about the need for additional sockets.

Let's be honest: Frugality is all well and good, but you can also take it too far. Your arguments are in no way forward-looking.

Don't forget the power outlet for your phone on the bedside table!

For me, for example, this is the standard:

1 ceiling outlet with switch/socket, 2 single sockets, 1 triple socket, 1 TV socket

Currently, I would plan like this:
One side of the bed gets the triple socket, the other side the single socket, which can then be upgraded to a double or triple, and the other single socket goes into another corner and if necessary can be made into a double again. By the room door there is anyway one with the light switch for the vacuum cleaner...

I suppose the room setup at DerGuteTon will be pretty much the same...

Since Alexa is moving along, this can also be conveniently solved this way, whether the bedside lamps or the "main light", it already works great now. Although a light switch at the bed would certainly be cool, it wouldn’t be an important feature for me.
