Conversion of two-family house to single-family house - floor plan?

I would plan such a massive conversion with an architect. What if he sees much better possibilities than are apparent to a layperson? You don’t even know if much better designs will emerge than seem possible. Maybe he says: everything inside can be removed from the walls, only that one cannot. And now you are planning to remove exactly that one wall and hang things on other walls, even though everything could be done really well that way..

We are already "being supported" by an architect ;) who accompanies us. So ideas come from his pen as well as from ours. Since we are designing this project gradually, there are always phases – like now, for example – in which we deal more intensively with the design and also seek the opinions of third parties – like here, for instance.

And the speechless refers to the walls to be removed. Inside and outside. A few steel beams are not enough to support the loads. The first step before playing around with the floor plan is to commission the structural engineer.

As mentioned, the option has already been discussed with our architect, who said that the ideas are basically feasible from his perspective. The commissioning of the structural engineer also goes through the architect; we would order it once it's reasonably clear where we want to go.

He doesn’t leave me speechless – that’s just how it is, the established house. It seems to me, a fairly modern old house?!
I would shorten the kitchen a bit and make a backup kitchen behind it, so a huge pantry :D

I had already thought about the idea of a pantry behind the kitchen, but until just now I didn’t know what a backup kitchen is. I really like the idea, so I am currently considering reviving the pantry.

One could of course put kitchen and dining where you plan the living room, then split the other part not horizontally but vertically on the plan, with the bedroom area on the left side of the plan and a smaller living room where the dining table is now, but you have surely played through all versions and know which advantages you have from the current one?

Yes, we also considered that option. However, the living room would be relatively small at about 16 m², you would get a huge master bedroom with 48 m², and with today’s kitchen there would be one room left, for which we would have to come up with something again.

I also had the idea of a pantry behind the kitchen, but until now I didn’t know what a backup kitchen is. However, I think the idea is great, so I am currently considering reviving the pantry.

I would then not place any wall stub at the bottom of the plan at all. Possibly a sliding door without a frame. But the architect probably knows how to implement this in your style.

The view into the "laundry" from the dining table is really not nice. The door in the dressing room should be centered anyway for better furnishing. So work with the line of sight there.

Can you please mark the support pillar up there? Something more should still be possible to get out of it.

I have marked the support pillars in orange. Only one of them is a concern, which is why the wall cannot be moved and why a better room layout is not possible. See photo.
