So I recently had a conversation with my chimney sweep, who is also an energy consultant. He said that generally you can calculate a lifespan of 15 years for a heat pump. You shouldn’t expect much longer. Even a refrigerator is broken after 15 years or then technically and visually so outdated that you replace it. I wouldn’t assume a lifespan of 30-40 years like with an oil heating system for a heat pump. And repairs on a heat pump are more difficult and also significantly more expensive than on an oil burner. In summary, one can say this about the heat pump: expensive to purchase, expensive to maintain, and only effective with elaborate heating systems like underfloor heating. Personally, I don’t like underfloor heating at all. Except in the bathroom, I don’t have that kind of heating either. I find this constant foot warmth uncomfortable. It’s also slow to respond.
