Hello,

we are currently busy planning how to design the flooring in the living/dining area. The kitchen area should have large concrete-look tiles and the living/dining area click vinyl in a nice oak-look tone. The tiles are to be laid using the thin-bed method and I am wondering how best to create the transition from tiles to vinyl. I find these transition profiles that lie on top ugly. There are also those "rail transition profiles" that you put between the floor coverings so that it is one surface. I hope you understand what I mean. If there is a height difference between vinyl and tiles, can you bridge the height difference with such transition profiles? Or how do you make sure that there is no height difference? Oh yes, we are laying the vinyl ourselves.

Best regards

Same final height: Install screed at different heights. I recommend the classic transition strip, the click vinyl should usually be laid 8 mm away from the installations (expansion etc.). The strip then covers the gap.

Hello,

the person from Osnabrück has described it correctly. The screed in the tile area is simply made deeper. The tile covering is then finished with a stainless steel edge strip (colloquially called Schlüterschiene after the manufacturer). You can now neatly fit the PVC with the necessary gap and then seal it up to the stainless steel strip.

Alternatively, you can also finish the PVC with such a strip and seal the gap between the two strips, which definitely ensures a clean finish.

If you want, I can send you pictures of both options.

Please also note that you will have expansion joints in the screed (I think you have heated screed) so there will be joints between the rooms even with the same covering.
If you do not want to transfer sound, for example from the hallway, into the living or sleeping rooms, I recommend installing a decoupling layer in the screed here and separating the covering with the two strips.

Best regards, Jann
