Hello,

we will soon receive our new building and want to lay vinyl flooring on the upper floors.

We want to install the vinyl flooring ourselves and also want to lay it floating (on the new screed).
We do not want to glue it.

Unfortunately, it is not very easy to find the right vinyl flooring.

What types of vinyl are there and how do they differ? (I am a bit lost here)

Rigid vinyl
Solid vinyl
Click vinyl
Rigid vinyl
are there any others?

(I will leave out the types of vinyl for gluing)

Impact sound insulation:

All types of vinyl are available with and without integrated impact sound insulation.
It is easier to install with integrated impact sound insulation, but what is really better?

Manufacturers:

Which manufacturers would you recommend?

In my search, I came across the following manufacturers:

HORI
Parador
Wineo

Are there any other top manufacturers of vinyl? How do you find the mentioned manufacturers? Is vinyl from these manufacturers a safe choice?
You are welcome to give further recommendations.

What else should be considered when buying vinyl?

How should the click connections be?

Thank you very much for your help

I would guess everything is the same with different names

Choose a high utility class and buy whatever else appeals to you

Also think directly about transition strips, we somehow didn’t really have that on our radar at the beginning

is that really all the same?

I think there are some differences.

I believe I have read that you can install Rigid Vinyl up to 400sqm seamlessly, so from room to room without transition strips

Yes.

Rather no, because there are joints in the screed at the latest there, and these should sensibly be taken over.

Correct. Our screed layer also told me about the screed joints and took away my illusions.

The 400 sqm are advertised as a marketing hit, but are very difficult to implement in practice. Hardly anyone (or almost no one) has a room measuring 20x20 meters. That means you lay the floor through several doors and rooms. First, you have to manage to stay square here. I see the advantage of rigid (also called SPC --> Stone Powder Composite) more in its property of not warping as much as regular vinyl. You can also lay it in a conservatory (direct sunlight).

Thank you for your messages.

It's a pity that you can't lay it without joints (sure, it would have been tricky to cut it precisely, but it would have looked great without transition strips).

So do we also have to leave joints in the vinyl where there are screed joints??

What happens if we just lay it over them?

In your opinion, is rigid vinyl the best vinyl to lay as a floating floor? Or are there similarly good or better types of vinyl?

What about hard vinyl?

Direct sunlight is less of a problem for us (no south side and no large window fronts).
