Mr.T2000 000, ask your broker if he has also considered the [Medienversicherung Karlsruhe]. Most brokers do not have it, but for us it was the cheapest building insurance including elemental risks.

So my insurance hasn't changed in that area for 3 years. Nothing has increased. For the car? I bought my car as a high-mileage vehicle for €1400 including TÜV and do many repairs myself. So it's a poor comparison for me. The building insurance was mentioned as an example here. So three days ago we had gusts over 80 km/h. That would have been classified as a storm. But we only need to look at other insurances. Household insurance with glass: Recently a glazed door slammed shut here. The glass shattered. The glazier charged about €500. I wouldn't just WANT to pay that "casually." Of course, you can't insure everything all the time. You don't have to either. As often described, it's a calculative thing. If I start with €140/year, it takes 14 years until I save something. Until then, simply nothing must happen. Damage of €1000 extends this period to 21 years. And if it really comes down to the wire and I maybe have to report the third "trifle" (in % that always sounds great, but for many €1500-2000 is easily half a monthly salary), I'd rather cancel myself independently and switch insurance. At least then I wouldn't be canceled by the insurance. I find it interesting how harshly cold cash is reduced here. The percentage calculation is completely irrelevant at the moment when it comes to actual amounts. Just now I entered the data on a comparison portal and calculated once with €2000 deductible, once without deductible. For me with the same insurance (Domcura) that's about €80 saving per year with the same coverage. I don't need to start calculating more, sorry. And if the insurance increases the amounts anyway, then I just switch. So what? The one great insurance that you stay with forever hardly exists anymore anyway.

That's exactly the kind of example again where the insurance “pays off,” like in the lottery, where one out of 140 million wins. I've never broken a pane in my life, not a single person in my family either, I never had household contents insurance, never needed it. My wife took one out, we had water damage in our rental apartment -> wardrobe ruined. Oh wonder, oh wonder, water damage was not covered by the standard insurance--- tough luck! --> threw the old Ikea wardrobe away and bought a good wardrobe, after all, we are no longer students... You're also not insured against device failure (TV, kitchen appliances, etc.)... if the expensive oven from the premium manufacturer breaks down shortly after the warranty expires, then that's just how it is, you have to accept it, it's a risk of life, it happens to everyone sometimes. We don’t even have to talk about the car, engine broke, tough luck. The second car runs 300,000 km without a breakdown.

Glass is even insured against self-inflicted damage here. Sensible for children and clumsy parents. True, it probably rarely happens. Accidents also rarely happen to me. All sorts of rare things happen. So why insure at all? It depends on one’s own sense of security. Admittedly, when it comes to insurance, I obviously have a slightly higher sense of security/need for security. I take a different approach when it comes to fixed interest rates. Why that is...?

It is completely clear that when you have had personal experiences, you react differently. I once rear-ended someone on the highway. Believe me, since then I have been a role model when it comes to keeping a safe distance (and I have become a fear-handle lover when I am the passenger ...)
