It doesn't stay at 140€, because the premiums increase. Sometimes even quite significantly, since new buildings have high bonuses that melt away just as quickly.

What kind of damage do the many storms in a year cause that adds up? You also don't have to fix every little scratch (immediately), whether insured or not, if it is, for example, only cosmetic (e.g., a branch lands on the facade, leaving a mark in the plaster).

As far as I have read, the insurance counts anything from wind force 8 as a "storm". Anything below that is not considered a storm and they do not pay for damages then. I can’t imagine a year with "many" storms in Germany. And as my predecessor says, after 2-3 claims, you’re out. I’m amazed that people build a house for ½ million and then have no more than 1000€ left for repairs. With your cars, you also pay for the timing belt change yourselves, or do you all lease???

As already mentioned: If anyone can calculate, it’s the insurance companies. Accordingly, around 40% of all reported damages will be under 2000,- EUR, which they pass on to their customers. Statistically speaking, you therefore save nothing, at most the effort of settling with the insurance. Oh yes, then there is still the margin of the VS ... which you of course still pay. So - statistically speaking - it brings nothing at all.

1000€ damage on a 400,000€ single-family house corresponds to 0.25% of the building value.

Apply that to a car: 0.25% of 25,000€ is 62.5€. That’s like wanting to claim every tiny scratch through the fully comprehensive insurance. One could call it a "fully comprehensive mentality."

However, I do not agree with that argument.
Insurance is not an investment but a risk protection. It doesn’t have to "pay off."
But I question why one has to insure 1000€. You can’t insure every little thing in life (or rather, in Germany you often can, but it’s expensive and destroys money).

2017! We had 3 storms with a lot of damage + 1x heavy rain. At least in our region.

Those affected more than once will not always be able to cover the so-called minor damages by themselves without difficulty.

Sure, then you are now the exception where it "pays off," but there are 1,000 others where nothing happened. If you get hit with a deductible / without insurance, then you just have bad luck. Like in the lottery... what I'm getting at is, of course you can insure yourself against EVERYTHING with top coverage and no deductible, but the question is whether it makes sense and is worth the amount. And you have to weigh that against your income and then decide if you want to bear immense fixed costs every month.
