Build the sink in the corner?

Hello everyone,

I have been an Ikea fan for a long time, but I am new to the forum. I am currently moving and planning my first kitchen. Of course, I would prefer one from Ikea. However, I have now realized that there probably is no solution for my problem there. I will try to explain it briefly.

I really don’t have much space for the kitchen. The longer side is 206cm and the shorter one is 140cm. The connections for the sink are on the longer side in the corner. The problem: The stove connections are on the outer edge of the shorter side. So I basically hit the edge of the stove in my back when I stand in the narrow gap between there and the sink (architectural masterpiece!).

My idea: A 90x90 cm corner solution with a corner base cabinet and corresponding countertop for the sink. Right next to it, in an L-shape, a 50cm wide freestanding stove. So not a corner with two 60cm deep countertops meeting at an angle, but a 90x90 countertop with a straight "standing area" in front (specifically for corner base cabinets for sinks). It would probably just work! On the long side, there would still be space for the fridge (50 wide) and a dishwasher (45 wide).

But I haven’t found any 90x90 corner base cabinets at Ikea nor a way to cut a matching countertop. Have I overlooked something? Other Ikea-compatible solutions for the problem would also be welcome!

Thank you very much!

Hello IKEA expert,

I tried to draw the current situation as accurately as possible. It is a walk-through room and therefore opposite doors.

Unfortunately, I can't get a better photo. The measurements are 206cm on the longer side and 140cm on the shorter side up to the door. The stove and sink are the problem. The stove is right next to the door and the sink is in the corner. Changing that is probably difficult because of the connections, right?

I don't have any more kitchen ops:! The corner solution would be the only option I can think of. I just don’t want to hit my back on the edge of the stove while washing, and a bit of workspace wouldn’t be bad either!

Next to the sink there is also a narrow dishwasher and the refrigerator built in.

Thank you very much!

Hello, many years ago I had a kitchen of this size in a rental apartment, but on your open side at the front right and left there were walls and in the middle a passage/entrance to the small kitchen. There were kitchen cabinets installed all around, top and bottom (however, no dishwasher). You could only open one door or drawer at a time. Interestingly, it was quite good to cook in there, even for several people - probably because you always had everything within reach and, so to speak, no distances. However, the countertop was not as deep as the one from Ikea, but only 60 cm.

hello juliette, if you can manage with 2 hotplates: MÖJLIG Induction cooktop, black you might want to consider 37 cm base cabinets on the short side. that way you can still reach the sink reasonably well and you can play around a bit with two 40 cm sink doors. best regards robi

Hello, yes, such small kitchens are more common in small apartments. Strangely, there are hardly any solutions from the kitchen manufacturers. They seem to assume that the average single person with a small apartment and kitchen doesn't cook anyway! What nonsense!!

I have also considered taking the refrigerator out of the row and placing it opposite the stove. But even with a 60cm deep countertop, I would only have 86cm of passage or space to the back when standing at the stove. That seems very tight to me. The dishwasher has to stay - it belongs to the landlord. Otherwise, I would remove it from the row, wash by hand, and rather cook properly.

I would prefer 4 cooking plates as well. I simply like to cook, and the espresso pot also needs a plate. Only 2 plates would be an absolute last resort if there is no other way. Besides, going without an oven is out of the question...

hello lolalotte,

run the power cable (of course it must be connected by an electrician), simply attach it surface-mounted behind the kitchen. another 40 cm sink from the hardware store with the drain on the right, done
