Build or buy a house? Children already 13/15 years old...

The children are already quite grown up (13+15 years). Is it still worth considering buying a house or building one?

Or would it be better to stay renting and later buy something suitable for old age when the kids have moved out?

We own a building plot (no building obligation). So far we live in a rental apartment, quite cheap but unfortunately without a garden, which would be nice. Affordable rental houses or rental apartments with gardens are scarce in the region.

How do you see the topic of house/children? We are also asking ourselves how big we should build, since it is not clear whether a child will stay or not. That also affects construction costs and later maintenance. We don’t really want to be tenants.

I would wait five years. Then you build a bungalow. With a guest room. The end.

Exactly bungalow or at most [ETW] with garden. House without children, why for?

Our children are older now and we have built again anyway, why not? When the children have moved out, I just have a guest room and a "sports or sauna room."

If you start planning the house now, it would probably still take 2 years until the house is built. Then the children will be 2 years older again... If you want to plan with a children's room, then maybe in a way that it later becomes a guest room and office or something like that.
