The space under the stairs shouldn't be wasted - why not use it as a storage room? The shape doesn't matter, partly standing height, partly slanted, partly very low... You can easily store a cabinet with cleaning supplies, vacuum cleaner, etc. there. And if you don't want to see the stuff, simply put up a curtain in front. More flexible than a door, it can also work on a slant (you just have to cut the fabric accordingly), and only requires a cheap DIY store rail for mounting.

The large hallway in the basement isn't bad at all, it surely gets enough light through the stairwell. Here you can put, where there are currently no doors, for example, a shoe cupboard (where summer boots and winter sandals are kept), there are definitely nice models that you don't have to hide. Still, you don't want to waste valuable wardrobe space on seasonal items.

Yes, that was also our first thought - drink crates etc. underneath. And also with the large hallway, I initially saw it more as an advantage that we could also use it as storage space. But you become self-critical, so the question to you - but apparently the basement situation isn’t that bad after all?

So I like the layout of the basement as it is. We also have a guest room / office in the basement with a similarly spacious hallway. It simply feels much more inviting than a "classic" (dark and narrow) basement hallway. However, we can only use the space under the stairs to a limited extent because we have an open wooden staircase without risers - so partitioning is not possible. Therefore, there are "only" three shoe cabinets under our stairs. Regards, Dirk

As a final piece of information: the plan has remained the same, and since the basement has been closed since Thursday and I was able to thoroughly examine the room conditions yesterday during the installation of the electrical and ventilation systems, I have to say: Everything was done correctly – the hallway is not too large, but simply appropriate without feeling cramped. The space under the stairs is already quite large and will probably become our beverage storage. Thank you for the assessments!
