Are roller shutters (where) dispensable?

I also wanted to build completely without them at first. Then I considered at least partially. Eventually, I came to the conclusion to take [Rollläden] everywhere. Generally, electric ones were installed. I am glad that I did it. Especially in new housing developments, people live quite close to each other, and this way you can protect yourself from prying eyes.

We didn’t want any, but now we have all floor-to-ceiling windows on the ground floor as well as south-facing windows on the upper floor. We mainly use them as privacy screens in the evening (we haven’t experienced summer yet).

Sun protection should definitely not be neglected. On the few sunny days in March, our cabin has already warmed up to around 25°C without the shutters being lowered. Despite the heating being turned off.

I immediately see the need for sun protection – so definitely roller shutters on the south and west-facing windows... I will also definitely reconsider the east window in the children's room; maybe child 2 will then sleep longer.

But the bathroom on the ground floor, attic as well as the utility room and kitchen – there neither thermal insulation nor darkness are important, and for mere privacy I can install something much more cost-effective from the inside, right? After all, our quote comes to about 230 euros per roller shutter, plus roughly the same amount again if it needs to be electric. That would be 2000 more right away – that may seem acceptable to some, or not much in relation to the total price, but when such "peanuts" add up in several areas, we have to start somewhere collecting them to stay within budget.

Do you think the resale value will suffer a lot if I leave out the roller shutters only in the secondary rooms? Or at least forego the electric drive? The latter can be retrofitted much more cheaply later with one of those electronic belt winder things, right?

Interior solutions also cost money if they are to look decent (Plissees etc.).

So I can now speak from our experiences here in the townhouse. You have to decide for yourselves.
We only have windows on the west and east sides here - the south and north sides are neighbors, so we are windowless!

Our kitchen window and our bedroom window (dormer window, so under the roof) face the east side. In summer, the blinds are only up early in the morning for ventilation and at night for ventilation/cooling. Still, it gets very warm and uncomfortable to sleep in the bedroom, so under the roof! Unimaginable without blinds.
The kitchen might also be okay without blinds - but you can feel in the guest WC and entrance (the blind is always up there) how warm it can get on the east side.

On the west side, the living room windows are floor-to-ceiling, and the children's room window (dormer floor-to-ceiling). Unimaginable without blinds. Neither downstairs nor upstairs. It would really get uncomfortably hot.

So leaving out the east windows on the ground floor might still be okay - but in the attic, it already gets hot enough through the roof. Without blinds, it is certainly uncomfortable.
