The dogs in our village - believe me, no one goes in there willingly. There's not a single small lap dog among them. Mastiff, Great Danes, German Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, hunting terrier, Rottweiler, Doberman - and usually 2-3 of them at once. One owner has 6 Bernese Mountain Dogs. When someone approaches, something starts at the fence, you bounce back. And when it's quiet like with the 2 Great Danes, it's even more creepy. You can get in, but not out anymore. :)

None of the mentioned will in any way prevent a burglar from entering the garden or the house. Possibly if the owner stands next to them and gives the commands learned for the protection dog test and the burglar happens to be wearing the bite suit from the dog training area. The barking also stops as soon as something tasty is thrown; no dog barks with a full mouth. Aside from the fact that the dogs who get terribly agitated behind the fence will probably leave immediately if someone enters the garden and suddenly there is no fence in between.

If burglars are good at one thing, it is handling other people's dogs. Speaking calmly and calmly, letting them sniff, not looking at them, not making eye contact, giving treats, etc. etc. Within seconds it is quiet. But let's leave it at that now, it is off-topic anyway.

Really not? I wouldn’t dare to go in there. I used to train dogs and was even once a decoy. It probably also depends on how badly the wrongdoers really want to get in.

No problem, it’s my thread after all and a dog was also ever an option.

I don’t know where you get your wisdom from, but the standard "quick in, quick out" burglars are well deterred by dogs because they do make noise. And the theory that you only have to throw treats or wag your hand so that all dogs happily carry out your silverware is also interesting.

And I’m not just saying that because we have dogs ourselves. Our little one is exactly what you describe, makes a huge ruckus but once you’re through the gate he’s overjoyed. If you do that when our big one is outside with you, you end up pressed against the wall! Because he doesn’t bark but simply waits and then surprises uninvited and unauthorized visitors.

With statements like that, I’d be really careful depending on the dog, because there are plenty of breeds/dogs with which a burglar wouldn’t have much fun and that regardless of whether the people train protection work or not.

But it also partly depends on the place of residence, all yard dogs here are much fiercer than the typical city dogs because they are still allowed to guard.

Also think, a house without a dog is the first choice. In - out without risk of injury With many dogs, you can hear from the growling and barking whether the neighbor's cat is passing by or someone unknown.

Without a dog, in my opinion, passive security is also very important. That means windows/doors in RC3. Lockable handles, multiple locking systems, etc.,
