A circulation pump for hot water. Yes or No?

I haven’t measured it yet, let's say it’s an estimated 20 seconds... but it already feels like a long time. However, the pipe goes directly from the heater to the bathroom... and the bathroom is right next door. That’s why my plumber didn’t install a pipe there... short distances, so not necessary.

But it is annoying. I’ll count it tonight while washing my hands...

The pump current is interesting because it used to be a significant factor. High-efficiency pumps have not been standard forever. This concerns not only hot water circulation but heating pumps in general. Many probably still have this in the back of their minds. Inefficient pumps are often referred to as hidden power guzzlers – but this no longer applies to current models.

I also consider heat loss through the line to be exaggerated, as the heat stays inside the house. With heat pumps, efficiency could still be discussed. In summer, of course, you don’t want any heat input.

Nonsense! You don’t plan according to water pipes but so that you like the floor plan. And you can forget about 3 seconds, 20 seconds are already more realistic. For us, it’s solved like with Basti, guest WC without circulation and only 4m of piping. There’s no way it’s 3 seconds. If you have three floors, circulation is mandatory. Omitting it I would call a planning mistake, with comfort requirements!

Planning is not just floor plans. If it takes that long with you despite the very short pipe length, certainly a pipe diameter far too large for a guest bathroom was used,... which logically extends the time until warm water arrives enormously. This is often done because nobody really thinks about it (no proper planning, a large rain shower is rarely installed in a guest bathroom that would require such a diameter...). You can read about the details wonderfully in the pink forum.

That you don’t design your floor plan solely based on water pipes... Yes, you can misunderstand everything however you want

Nonetheless, I expect from an architect that he optimizes the overall concept, not just the floor plan (especially if, as I think some here do, you have certain demands for ecological building). For a nice house there is (at least for me) much more than just a nice floor plan.

That is the moment when circulation becomes mandatory. Not meant figuratively. Due to stagnation and risk of microbial growth. More than 3 liters of warm water must not remain in the pipe, if I remember correctly. Corresponds to about 20 seconds of running time with usual cross-sections. It should not take longer.

Weird logic... Legionella form in lukewarm stagnant water, a heat pump operates at about 40° Celsius, so very high risk of Legionella, therefore one should definitely install a circulation pump.
