I actually wouldn’t do that without a lawyer either, especially if the opposing party is legally represented. Do you have the option to share the lawyer’s costs with your sister? If financially nothing is possible, you would probably also be entitled to legal advice assistance, which you could apply for at your responsible district court. Then the state treasury covers the lawyer’s costs, your personal contribution is 15 EUR. Alternatively (because most lawyers are not particularly keen on Beratungshilfe mandates) you could also try to agree with a lawyer that his costs will be paid after receiving the compulsory portion.
Thanks for your commitment to the matter!
Lawyer, see above, my last message. Legal advice assistance, yes. Unfortunately, my monthly income is just such that I don’t have to go into debt. I would definitely qualify for it. Problem: You are only allowed to have very very little savings. I am above this limit. For a (probably) hopeless court case, I don’t want to spend my savings either. I have saved too much (hard over decades) for that. You see, saving doesn’t pay off. The whole thing has now totally gone wrong.
