We have a concrete staircase with tile covering from the basement to the ground floor (same tiles as in the hallway in the basement and ground floor). Due to the slope, our entrance area is in the basement, and we use the staircase every day. For this reason, we did not want wood there. After all, you do occasionally walk up the stairs with street shoes.

And from the ground floor to the upper floor, we have a cantilevered solid oiled beech wood staircase. The additional cost for oak was too high for us. Here I find the wood perfect and very cozy.

Here is a picture from top to bottom:

How is the staircase in front of the window held up at your place, you don’t have stringers, do you?

Best regards

There is a "metal strip" installed, which is attached on the right and left sides in the window recess and holds the steps.. (There would also be a nice stainless steel version, we simply used white-painted metal) You can see it very slightly in the photo as a white edge around the stair steps parallel to the glass pane.

I can't believe that holds and doesn't bend? Are the steps still connected to each other?

Best regards

I am also not a fan of granite stairs. For me, they always feel uncomfortable and cold, and I always immediately think of an apartment building. Besides, granite always seems slippery. We will have a concrete staircase with a wooden covering (or vinyl with a wood look). For me, the ultimate: quiet and warm. But tastes differ. Our architect, for example, is a total fan of granite stairs.

In our current house (rental), we have a steel staircase with a wooden covering. It makes noises when walked on, but I don't necessarily find that disturbing.
