Hello everyone,

who among you actually took out disability insurance before financing a house? I hear from some that it is indispensable, from others that it is not necessarily needed. I have the problem that I would like to take one out, but I can't get one because I was diagnosed with Morbus Crohn five years ago. However, I am well managed and have no problems so far, I can work normally and study part-time. I also do not work physically, I work in an office.

So just a general question, how dispensable or indispensable do you see this insurance?

Best regards and have a nice Sunday.

Regards Christian

For me, it is a MUST insurance - however, independent of house construction. I took it out immediately after my training back then and therefore do not pay that much for it (and will get part of the amount paid back later).

What is absolutely indispensable for me as an average earner without rich parents etc. when building a house: term life insurance - to protect the partner and/or child in case of emergency and to be able to keep the house. The insurances usually do not cost much...

Otherwise, apart from legal expenses insurance, a private supplementary health insurance, and the mandatory personal liability insurance, I have nothing...

I consider disability insurance very sensible for medium and higher incomes.

If you don't get one, perhaps a dread disease insurance might still work.

A disability insurance (Berufsunfähigkeitsversicherung, BU) provides financial protection if you become unable to work due to illness or accident. Dread disease insurance (Dread Disease Versicherung) pays out a lump sum if you are diagnosed with certain serious illnesses, such as cancer, heart attack, or stroke.

Hello, I have a BU since the end of my studies, which also grows with my income. Before the construction, I increased my term life insurance to ~50% of the loan amount, since my partner could not pay the installment alone and thus has some breathing room for planning. Is it not possible to take out a BU or term insurance with exclusion of certain illnesses? Best regards.
