Are you aware of the maintenance? My father has 50 meters of hedge around the house and is always busy trimming it for ages. You must not underestimate that. Then the clippings also have to be taken away, etc. He is really annoyed by it...

Better than being locked up. One will always have to die some kind of death. The nice solutions are usually also the elaborate ones.

Of course I am aware of that. A property always requires work, in my case I just have to make sure that the plant does not shed leaves. I can handle trimming it twice a year.

There are different kinds of hedges. We have about 40 meters at the old house (rented). Everything grows together there. Some plants shoot up really fast in the sun and with enough moisture, but the branches are still quite soft in the first year and can be cut with a normal hedge trimmer. Then there are plants that have extremely hard and long thorns - you can't even touch those with gloves. Part of it is a beech hedge - here a large pruning shear or chainsaw is needed when the cutback needs to be more extensive.

After I went through the procedure once (in spring), it was clear to me that the new building would not get a hedge. I completely underestimated it, especially the disposal, but also the time required. Since then, I've only had the hedge trimmed by a garden maintenance company; they tackle it with 3 people, and have large trailers and vehicles with mesh cages on them.

My parents have a laurel hedge like that. It gets trimmed in no time. They spend one day on it per year. In terms of quantity, we're talking about a 30sqm slope and in total maybe 20sqm as a long hedge behind the pool.

I’m saying it depends on the hedge.
