Hello everyone,

my site manager called me again yesterday about the basement and brought up the topic of the floor covering on the ground floor again, meaning we should reconsider it because of the feeling of cold (but also for later when it might be renovated) maybe mixing both after all, especially in the living area.

We actually wanted wood-look tiles throughout the entire ground floor. Everything has already been selected. In the photo, the tile is below and the laminate is lying on top of it.

Now I have been thinking and here is an idea. See picture.

- Yellow is laminate
- Green is tile
- Blue is island

And yes I ordered the kitchen as planned :-p

What is your opinion on the mixed idea?

Why choose a tile with a wood look? Just take parquet, it is definitely more comfortable.

Laminate as a landlord in a rental apartment - then yes. Laminate as an owner - is that really necessary?

Tiles are too cold for me in summer (hallways and bathrooms are okay), I prefer parquet. There is no big price difference between good laminate and a wooden floor. Please glue down parquet then.

Tiles belong in the kitchen for me, just like in the bathroom.

Why not parquet? Because for the selected wood tile I need a floor that shows as little difference as possible.

Therefore, parquet is not an option for us.

The wood tile will be laid on the top and bottom floors in the bathrooms. Partially also on the wall (toilet and washbasin side).

Now the only question is whether I follow the sketched idea or, as initially thought, have everything in tile except the bedrooms!

So, on the ground floor we only have tiles in the entrance area (hallway) and in the guest bathroom. That would correspond to the right side of your sketch... Kitchen, living, dining, and storage room all (high-quality, glued) laminate flooring...

We have had good experiences simply questioning such "dogmas."

My personal opinion: Similar, but not identical, disturbs the eye much more than creating a contrast right away.
