Is wood parquet recommended on the ground floor and also in the kitchen?

Purely a matter of interest: why do you think tiles are easier to maintain?! I have to vacuum crumbs both from parquet and tiles, damp wiping works on parquet as well, if something breaks, you just wipe it up the same on tiles and parquet. The only thing wood doesn’t like is standing water for a long time. I really don’t see the problem [emoji4]

So I have 2 King Tigers that regularly extend their claws. Since the two often play catch and use their claws to slow down, my parquet now looks accordingly. Furthermore, they regularly spit on the floor, long-haired ones that swallow hair during grooming and then regurgitate it after a certain time. Since I am not home all day, the wood unfortunately suffers in those spots as well.

But since I also like the wood look, I will use wood-look tiles in the future. A friend of mine has them in the bathroom and I must say you can't see much difference from real wood. And thanks to underfloor heating, they are also 'warm underfoot'.

So I think it's definitely worth considering. And glasses/bottles have already broken on me despite the wooden floor...

It's just a trend again to have wooden floors in the kitchen and dining room. Personally, I'm not a big fan of it, because if something falls, you get a dent in the floor. Water is also an issue. And for me personally, it would be too much wood in the house, since upstairs you usually already have parquet.

We mainly have natural stone on the ground floor, and I still think it's great. Very easy to maintain and robust. I also find the look and feel great for the dining area.

But as always, it's a matter of taste, both options work!

Well, we also have the house cat and haven’t had any significant scratches in the (oiled) parquet yet. As I mentioned in another thread, I also think that in old properties the wooden floor can age gracefully with signs of use. The prerequisite is that you can live with these occurring flaws. If you don’t want that, you switch to alternatives like wood-look tiles. For us that’s not a compromise, but I can understand that some see it differently.

Kind regards

Do you have any photos of the natural stone tiles?

I'm considering installing that too.
Real natural stone or appearance?

It certainly depends a lot on habits.

Walking on natural stone or tiles is not as comfortable even with underfloor heating as it is on parquet. If you walk a lot barefoot or in socks, it’s simply more pleasant. If you wear slippers around, it hardly matters anymore.

Appearance is always a matter of taste... Personally, I find natural stone flooring absolutely awful. Tiles with a wood look are quite nice, but the texture and lack of warmth bother me as a barefoot walker.

Regarding maintenance: We are not particularly gentle with the parquet in the kitchen. It is wiped twice a week with a damp cloth and wood floor soap, and oiled once a year. The wood hides dirt very well, so it never really looks dirty, which was different with our tiles before and required much more effort to clean.
