Hello,

the question is always, what is the alternative to the basement? How much stuff do you have and where do you want to store it?
Also, the technical room has to be on the ground floor, meaning that already directly cuts off 10-15 sqm from the living area. If you also want a guest room and/or an office, you have to enlarge the main building. That is not for free either.

But just wait and see how high the additional costs are.

Best regards,

Andreas

So far, so clear.
But an additional cost of 20k or more is simply not feasible. That makes us seriously reconsider the whole matter, including the originally chosen house. It has to remain proportional. The fact is, I won’t be using the basement daily, yet it could account for 1/3 or more of the house price if things go badly.
And to be honest, for me that’s no longer reasonable. I can rent a storage room for years for the stuff I don’t always need.

With high groundwater, it is actually something to consider. We almost bought a property but shortly before found out that groundwater is to be expected from 1 meter. So not suitable for floor-to-ceiling windows. And a dark utility basement should be in proportion. Then possibly rethink the house concept and create storage space differently.

o_O What does groundwater at 1 meter depth have to do with floor-to-ceiling windows?

Sorry, I'm kind of confused right now...
