What did you order on the internet?

I’ll just say that we Germans are not used to haggling, or often don’t dare to. I have learned to negotiate, which sometimes is actually embarrassing for my wife. But here it applies, asking costs nothing and I have indeed often experienced that it works, not always but more and more often.
I had already told the furniture dealer that he should always keep one thing in mind: he only has one furniture store, I have many. So just dare to haggle, you’ll see, with a bit of honey around the mouth little doors will open.

If you have the possibility to find the identical furniture on the internet, then that is a good argument for negotiations in the furniture store. Ultimately, I have almost always gotten the same or slightly higher price in the furniture store. Sometimes they are even below the internet prices. But of course, you have to negotiate and above all compare a lot. On the one hand, furniture stores usually conceal the brand and product names, on the other hand, you really have to look at the quality. This is often not in relation to the price. Expensive here does not necessarily mean high quality, or vice versa. In the end, the furniture all come from the same regions and often from the same factories. That means, conversely, that they all have similar margins and thus similar prices.

Does anyone here have experience with the manufacturer - massivum - The one or other furniture series appeals to me quite a bit. So purely visually, I could imagine buying from them. I also think solid wood is great. But does it deliver what it promises?

I saw bathroom furniture at mobel.de. Brand SAM. This company has a clearance sale in Walldorf, which is near the Hockenheimring, so we drove the 80 km to see the furniture live. The quality was at most on the level of poco or Roller. The worst thing was the smell of the wood, which was not wood but some kind of MDF. I immediately declined politely. We then looked at some sofa sets, they look good but some corners were only single-stitched, which won't last long. Better to spend a bit more money and buy something better.

The whole thing is very simple in furniture stores.

Tell them what the piece of furniture is worth to you or what it costs on the [I-Net]. You will get the same price there and secure the jobs and the local dealer. Even if it costs a few € more, the advice is worth it to me.

What’s possible (own experience!)? High-quality lamps, sofa sets (Ewald Schillig), living room furniture (Hülsta), wardrobes (Voss).
All prices were identical or nearly identical to the prices on the [I-Net] in the furniture store. So why should I order and possibly hassle myself?

With a couch?
After 5 years it’s also no longer up to date and would need to be replaced.
I’m not into the cheap 999€ sofas either, I have something in the triple range (Schillig)... but honestly: at some point the mainstream of two "double seats facing each other" is out and you want the lounging corner. Then that was out because you got back problems and now it’s the L-shaped furniture. And if that stays, then it’s the fabric: in the early 2000s it was microfiber, which no one wants anymore today, velour was a generation before that...

But to the question: sofa and chair: trying them out beforehand would be an advantage.
I ordered our chairs: I’m ashamed... trying out or seeing them at a furniture store, taking a photo, uploading it on Google photo search and getting a bargain for 2/3 off... 100 instead of 300 € is a big deal.
Lamps at vente-privee: saved half, instead of 200, 100 €, trusted the quality.
Bamboo parquet: ordered on the internet: great goods!
Plants: so-so!

The advantage is: you have choice!

Individual furniture is very hard to find online – only the common stuff: MDF, high gloss, chrome, or faux leather. Those are also cheaper.
But if you want a one-off piece, you pay the same as in the store. If not even you can haggle a bit in the store.
