I believe that with age, the reactance against the constant consumption and renewal craze increases. We could start a competition to see who here has the oldest mobile phone model in use (not in the closet). I'll start with the Star II from Samsung, year of manufacture / market launch 2011.

The problem is that if someone now comes along and brings a longer-lasting product to the market which also costs more, it will probably be rejected by the customers. For many, the purchase price is the decisive point and not the price in connection with the expected lifetime. [Geiz ist cool!]

I see it a bit differently. I think that in old age more emphasis is placed on quality. Not because there is a change of mind, but because financial resources are available and one settles down.

Why invest in a good dishwasher for a cheap rental apartment when you are still paying back Bafög and don’t even know where your young professional life will take you?

Later, there is more money and a Tupperware container that doesn’t dry out is annoying.
So the better dishwasher is bought.

I think real brand products also last a long time. No one buys a washing machine for €1500 anymore if it kicks the bucket after three years.

Last year I would have beaten you easily by 5 years. My current interim solution should still beat you easily.

I think kaho katja is not completely wrong there. It has something to do with age. You become less inclined to desire things. Our TV from 2010 was expensive back then, over a thousand, had a top picture, great sound, and a good size in 2010. Its sound is still great today, its picture by today's standards is poor, its size is small, and it can't use the Internet at all. So some younger people would dearly wish that stupid thing would finally break down. We older ones, on the other hand, do not long for the 4k picture so much, don't need the Internet on the TV, and already consider a 40-inch screen large. And we enjoy the fact that it keeps going and going. Although I want to make one qualification. In 2010 it replaced a Sony Trinitron tube TV, which moved to the guest room. The Sony simply did not want to break down, it is still running today. But it really should be replaced. Only in the guest room, when I want to watch something she doesn't want to, it is still enough. Somehow you can't see its 17 years of operation. Karsten
