I do not want the noises of my washing machine to be upstairs. That is why it is in the basement. We have a laundry chute from the dressing room to the laundry basement. It is properly clad, so you don’t hear anything there either. Our basement is completely within the thermal envelope and I dry the laundry half in the dryer and half in the room. In summer, I have turned on the dehumidifier a few times, but it is simply not true that the laundry there would not dry quickly.

My washing machine is quiet. The spin cycle is slightly audible when it is quiet. I used to have it in the basement and no longer want to.

In our house, the laundry chute goes from the upstairs bathroom to the laundry room in the basement. It's extremely practical. Although it was a rather expensive investment, it's worth it in the long run.
