Uncertainties regarding size, planning itself is so far completed

Even with a dormer, you still have sloping ceilings in the room. I simply find it a comfort factor not to sleep directly under the roof. I am very picky or rather sensitive when it comes to sleeping; I even used to tape over the keyhole to have it dark. Otherwise, my night is over after 6 hours. And houses with knee walls are simply cheaper.

Of course you have slanted ceilings, but you didn’t complain about that, rather about rain (a matter of taste) and now still darkness.

And for that there are - believe it or not - actually roller shutters. They make it very, very dark.

You can also feel free to explain the last sentence - so you want to disparage classic gable roof houses? To generally call them cheap is wrong anyway...

These are, as I already said, all your personal preferences. For others, sleeping under sloping walls is a comfort factor (you also sleep under the roof with a flat roof and others, apart from that), some like it quiet, others don’t mind the sound of rain (which, by the way, you don’t hear under a sloped roof, at least not here; you only hear something if the rain is hitting the shutters at an angle). I always have a (light) alarm clock next to the bed; for me, it is not too bright, and I don’t have to turn on the light if I need to get up. Everyone has to decide that for themselves (and when building a house).

Houses with a knee wall don’t have to be cheaper; that is so generalized—and who cares. Sometimes a pitched roof is also a good decision if you aren’t allowed to build two stories.

Yes, there are roof windows with shutters, but it still rains on them and it is definitely louder.

And yes, if you sleep directly under a roof, you hear the rain, maybe even the wind stronger.

I probably made the mistake of not expressing myself more clearly, the thing about the window and rain are memories from the past.

Are you trying to claim that 2 full stories cost the same as a knee wall? And no, it is nothing derogatory, some building areas do not allow anything else. We were lucky to be able to decide freely and thus gain an additional 10x10x1.80 space under the roof.

1. No. Under my sloping roof it is absolutely quiet, you only hear it if rain pounds against the non-roof window in the wind.

2. With the same living space, the price difference is certainly not large. You should also compare properly. 10x10x1.8m space under the roof, is that a flat roof? Sounds like money thrown away, reads like a "cripple floor," where I couldn’t stand upright anywhere in one place. I swear by my attic under the half-hipped roof, where at least I can walk upright in the middle everywhere, and store things on the sides where it gets "flatter."

And why does the note "it's also CHEAPER" even come up at all if it is not meant to be derogatory?

A gable roof with dormers and skylights can very well be more expensive than a house from Nikolaus – depending on quantity and design, these are quite costly matters. Whatever the price is supposed to indicate here...

And properly insulated, you neither hear wind nor rain louder. By the way, there are skylights that dampen the pattering. But as has been said several times, it’s a matter of taste – we built an extra large skylight right above our bed because we just think it's cool.
