Tiles in the living area - baseboards made of tiles or wood?

I don't like tile skirting boards anymore… Even in the bathroom we have white wooden skirting boards. We also have the same skirting boards with our floorboards.

I like it exceptionally. We will also lay tiles with a wood look in the hallways, kitchen, living room, bathrooms. I find the skirting boards in white very appealing. In the living areas (children's room, office, bedroom), however, we will probably switch to vinyl.

By the way, we then also decided on the wooden baseboards. However, installation has not yet taken place. The only consideration I still had was whether it might be a good idea to apply a silicone joint between the tiles and the wooden baseboard in the utility room, in case something spills? Or would it be unproblematic if some water gets between the tiles and the baseboard?

Depends on how long water runs in there or how long it stands, and whether the utility room is also heated in your case. Depending on that, it simply evaporates, the base swells, the base rots, or you have a full-blown moisture damage (though, with that amount, even the silicone joint probably wouldn’t help). Silicone joint is a good idea, but you should definitely check/retighten it after a year, since so much still moves in the house and something might tear off again.
