Why louvers? I don’t see any real advantage and one of the expensive solutions.

You just have to think about what you want. Only shading or also sometimes leaving things outside? Don’t just think about above. What about low sun and what about wind from the side?

Actually, just shading - I leave the table outside anyway even when it rains - so I don't necessarily need a roof. With slats, I see the advantage of ventilation and light incidence - actually, it just looks great visually as well. But yes - of course an awning would also be conceivable for us. Ultimately, we definitely don't need a fixed roof. I do see wind from the side as a problem - but there are also pergolas with side blinds - we've already had those in mind.

Louvered roofs would be my first choice, I didn’t suggest that because it was supposed to be an affordable solution. I think louvers have the advantage that you don’t necessarily have to close them completely and can let light (and air) in. In winter, you also have light inside with them. With some providers, you can also completely slide the louvers together like a roller blind, which I find the best solution, then in winter you only have the frame in front of the window and nothing else. Closing on the sides is also possible with glass or fabric, as well as vertically with a valance, against low-standing sun.

We had that consideration at the beginning as well. We also had such a roofing shown to us by a roofing company.
But then the price made us back off again. It was one of the most expensive offers. It looked nice, but you also have to consider the packing of the slid-together louvers. For our size of 7x4, this was almost one meter lost from the 4 meters...

And you always hear stories about jammed slats, the motor failing, something leaking, etc. So I can’t understand having no roof, although we definitely want a roof for rain protection. And then glass, so that you still have maximum natural light even in dull, rainy weather, is obviously best... But if no roof, then I would stretch a sail.

What I find quite interesting and have also seen with one or the other house-building influencer:

A pavilion from "Weide". Fully aluminum pavilion with louvered roof. At 3.6x4m, it costs around €3,600 – which is certainly not bad.

However, I wonder: How does wall mounting behave with such a roof in relation to the roller shutter box? Feasible?

Or if pavilion, then freestanding?
