Okay, so nothing that couldn't also be done with many other systems... Proprietary or not, it doesn't matter then.

Very clear: YES and NO

Without integration, you create BER at home, the construction takes forever, no one really knows what is going on and who is responsible... and if it should ever be finished someday, it is too small... half of the solutions are a dead end and for the other half there is no more support because the company decided not to further develop the product line or even the entire company is gone.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to build something like that into my house...

: Which arguments currently speak against a KNX implementation for you?

Quite clearly the costs.

I have decided on a Loxone variant and am very satisfied with it. I can solve most of the things mentioned here as well with a standard Loxone solution. Unfortunately, there are no devices like a stereo receiver that work directly with Loxone, but since Loxone also supports EIB, I could even get a stereo receiver with EIB and connect it through one of my empty conduits to the home automation system (if that ever really becomes my goal, which I don’t believe).

The costs just do not match the requirements. Simple switching of roller shutters, lights wasn’t even mentioned. Window contact sensors, heating / air heat pumps or solar systems control, and a video intercom system can be controlled by almost any system nowadays.

That could probably even be solved with a Raspberry Pi and a sack full of relays and reed contacts, and then I’d have endless flexibility and unlimited programming possibilities...

What heat pump do you have/get? What kind of solar system is it? Do you already have a specific model in mind for the intercom system? Do these devices have interfaces? If yes, what do they look like?

If these devices have additional modules for KNX, then I would probably actually recommend KNX to you. Simple HTTP (REST) interfaces are supported by almost all solutions nowadays...

And please don’t let yourselves be impressed by a weather station; there are countless free services on the internet that provide you with data for the next 16 days with just three clicks!

If costs were neutral, would you also have gone with Loxone or would there be other reasons?
