Since otherwise people will complain again that I supposedly haven’t read anything and only pick out individual sentences, I guess I have to quote in full:
First, you only addressed my first partial sentence ("have to buy expensive additionally") and ignored the other part ("or have to tinker").
Second, the HomeServer was only meant as an example, which is why "e.g." was added.
Third: The EibPC with visualization costs over €600 without the IP Gateway, which is also needed, so it is significantly more expensive and ultimately also a tinkering solution with a much higher learning curve for beginners, and Wiregate is not exactly a bargain either and, to my knowledge, mostly just a visualization without major logic functions (otherwise please enlighten me, I am ignorant with devices from yesterday, which I only bought a few months ago).
Have you actually taken a closer look at Loxone or other PLCs?
First:
We never talked about DIY here but about ready-made solutions... that’s why your part was ignored.
Second:
The HomeServer is a bad choice as an example, since it is basically the S-Class and an absolute overkill for the average consumer.
Third, and here I quote myself:
see Wiregate or EibPC to name just two, but there are many many more and every day new ones come along.
Just like you, I only named two examples and added that there are many more fishes in the pond. Just look at the ready-made solutions available for mobile phones alone. The offer is simply huge, starting with completely free software and ending somewhere in the range of the HomeServer.
By the way, here is a quote from Wiregate:
The WireGate Server is a pre-installed multifunction gateway for smart homes. It is specially designed as a gateway between wireless and wired bus systems such as 1-Wire sensor networks, KNX installation bus, Ethernet & Internet as well as serial interfaces like USB, RS232, RS485..
Events and data are stored in simple text files ("logs") and databases and can be easily graphically evaluated with a click. Logic and extensions of functionality can be implemented with plugins. Several dozen ready-made plugins are available for personal use. These can be easily adapted for your own purposes,
New, now in version 1.2. The graphical interface for use in the browser has been extensively revised and greatly simplified. No Linux knowledge is required. A root access is also available for power users.
And yes, I was at the point where you are now about 5 years ago and looked at various solutions including Loxone, so I do know what I’m talking about. And I haven’t stopped but inform myself daily about developments.
Therefore, I’m also considering whether I should actually spend the money and have the space for the heating actuators; I have to talk to my GaWaSch about it again
Don’t bother, it makes no sense and is just money thrown away. There won’t be any control. In a well-built and balanced system, the automation of the heat pump or the boiler, depending on what you have installed, does all the work...
About that nonsense from FreakErn you can really only say:
The title here is:
Home Automation - Consultation
and that’s all I do here...
P.S. I am the personification of calm...
