Hey,

I am currently figuring out how to solve the following setup:

There are 5 double network sockets and a single network cable for an access point.
Now I have 50cm of space in a corner of the utility room for a network cabinet. A 10-inch cabinet is no problem, but since I would need a 16-port PoE switch, these are again too wide for that.
A 19-inch cabinet is at best 2cm wider, so it doesn’t fit.

Use the 10-inch cabinet, a 10-port PoE switch, and a double network socket going into the FritzBox, the rest + access point into the switch.

Would that be a plan, or does someone have another idea?

Thanks!

You can also put several switches in the network cabinet. Do you need PoE everywhere? Probably not. Or you buy a 19 inch rack from event technology. Those are narrower. For example, google 'K&M 19" Rack 12 HE'.

Yes, I just saw the thing with the multiple switches as well, there would be an additional power tap again. If one socket would run through the Fritz. In principle, there would then only be one PoE device. I would prefer not a cube but more a cabinet, so something that is also taller, about 60-70cm. I have mostly only seen that in the affordable range with the 10s. Just now I think I found something suitable. The Zyxel ES1100-16P has PoE, has 16 ports, and fits in a 10 cabinet because it is under 30cm wide.

I find the 19" version better because there are more options for the devices, but with the few ports you have, 10" also works. If there is space next to the cabinet on the side, then choose a cabinet where the side panels can also be removed.

Now about the switch. For one to three POE devices, I would use POE injectors and take a switch without POE. You can already cross out the ES1100 because it only supports 100MBit. Do you have Magenta TV or is it planned? If yes, then you need a smart-managed switch that supports IGMPv3. If no, then an unmanaged switch is sufficient. I would definitely take a switch with 16 ports to have reserves for additional devices (e.g., NAS, PiHole, ...).

How will the telephone be implemented? If DECT is through the Fritzbox, then the box must not be placed in the cabinet. The same applies to WLAN.

Of course, the 19-inch would be better, no question. But the 10-inch that I picked out opens from the side. Can be found on a large auction platform under the item number: 113707816584, as a 12 HE variant.

In this case, it would initially only be an injector. The injector would then be located in the network closet and not near the access point, or is it?

Phone is currently registered as DECT via FritzFon. The idea here would be to put an old 7490 in (or on) the network closet, and the currently used 7590 would then be in the study for DECT registration.

A pity about the ES1100, as it would have fit perfectly. But switches without PoE are definitely quite a bit cheaper plus the additional injector. For the access point, I was thinking of a Ubiquiti, the AC Lite. Do you need to pay attention to anything with the switches so that the two work together, or does it not matter?

Take a 19" cabinet vertically. That is enough for your small network. It is better to choose the NanoHDs for the APs (faster, less energy consumption, smaller, newer, and longer support...). The switches should have full duplex Gbit. How big is the apartment/house? One access point seems rather little to me now. Please do not plan the Fritzbox in the metal cabinet as an access point. Here you will mainly only have slow 2.4 GHz WiFi. Implement the POE with an injector. A POE switch makes no sense for one device.
