Slanted walls for more square meters - sensible or not?

Hello everyone,

I would like to know your experiences when it comes to masonry of a slanted wall. Our plot is narrow and opens to the garden (purple dashed line = building boundaries). The property line runs at an angle. Does it make sense to lay the masonry at an angle like in the green line or like the architect suggests? We currently have just under 91sqm in the basement and think that utilizing the boundaries might possibly make sense. The architect works with projections and recesses, which is more expensive on the construction side than building through a wall. A disadvantage could be that the room appears asymmetrical and we won’t be able to really straighten anything. But maybe it looks cool visually? What do you think and do any other pros or cons come to mind?

Many thanks!!

In what way would that be sensible? A tilted house with slanted walls and then a significantly more complex roof and poorer usability inside (couch is at an angle - great for watching TV ==> just an example).

I don't see any advantages at all. Not even cost-wise. It just looks stupid (personal) opinion and is not practical.

Oh, that laypeople always have to be so one-sidedly floor plan-focused and find it so difficult to see a building holistically. Your question has more dimensions than you are aware of (among other things, you forget the consequences of both variants for the eaves), and unfortunately you only show the basement (and no elevations either). Nevertheless, my experience is enough to give you a "short version": do it stepped as the architect suggests. And be glad you found one who doesn’t plan botched pockets.

That can be something special. I would worry least about the furniture. The floor plan isn’t crazy enough for that. There are also round houses, etc. Without more info or plans, though, it’s difficult to judge.

Diagonal always means a dynamic that can add pep to boring floor plans. (See parallel thread „kleines Bad“) However, one should not conceal anything that is intentional. I do not see the objections here as known. A counterargument could be the garden area at the top of the plan. Is it north there and does it serve a specific purpose?

I would definitely prefer the slanted wall for aesthetic reasons rather than the jagged zigzag. The furnishing will appeal to people with a bit of imagination and an "eye." The view outside improves when you don't have to look at these projections. The design outside in the garden area becomes easier.
Unlike on the opposite side, these projections and recesses have no practical use except to create "right angles." Even if you don't use the gained space with maximum efficiency, nothing is "wasted" compared to the right-angled solution. You won't be able to fit "more," but you gain character and generosity.

The roof covering could be somewhat more expensive, the wall itself somewhat cheaper. I can’t estimate how it will turn out.
